After opening the house
We will transfer to the year 1912 now when the house was opened. There was a pleasant wine restaurant in the lower floor, a café was above it and there were also shops with drapery in the second floor. Anyway, the café was not opened for too long because according to the records it ceased to exist already in the ´20s of the 20th century. There were offices in the floor above and the appartments were located in the top floor. The fans of Cubism really came to their own here because the furniture and the interior were all Cubist.
Legend of the „Black Madonna“
Now we will reveal the legend related to the occurence of the „Black Madonna“. According to the legends if her painting, statue and similar images are placed around, there are supposed to be underground corridors and other spaces in those places which in fact had been confirmed.
The underground route
There is one of the many routes leading through the historical Prague underground at the House of the Black Madonna. This route is a little more demanding than the other ones and therefore it is possible to partly travel by a mine locomotive. The seightseeing begins in Senovážné náměstí (Senovážné square), it leads on in the underground around the Municipal House, along the Královedvorská street, then along the House of the Black Madonna and the end of the route is located in the historical basement of a house in Celetná street which is to be found near the Týn Cathedral.

Prague 1 still belongs to one of the most attractive parts of the whole Prague. Probably nowhere else you can find such a concentration of historic monuments and places where the history and romance of bygone times are all around you. Hardly anywhere you can walk on the same paths where were walking Franz Kafka, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the Golem of Prague.
