Origin of the house
The house was built in the demolition period of the Old Town when the local original houses were pulled down in February, 1896. One of the houses was a gorgeous Baroque palace built in 1704 based on the project of Jan Santini Aichel, a famous Czech architect of Italian descent. One of the neighbouring houses was performed based on the design of Dientzenhofer´s constructions. One year later a new construction designed by Rudolf Kříženecký and Franzem Schier was built here.
Decorations
Schier´s house was built in the Baroque style and its remarkable facade is created mainly by plenty of statues and sculptures. The authors of this gorgeous sculptural decorations were the Czech sculptors Vilím Amort, Jindřich Říha and Josef Kropáček. Mainly the house facade with the numerous sandstone statues is unique. These gems include the sculptures of the giants who are carrying the bay window on the house corner.

Reconstruction of the house
Schier´s house was badly damaged during WW2, namely in May 1945 during the Prague Uprising fights resulting in destruction of the majority of the buildings and burning down the Old Town Hall. However, due to the extensive and costly reconstructions this exceptional building was saved. The construction works were carried out between 1946 – 1949 under the direction of the architects Jaroslav Stránský and Karel Storchem. The already mentioned facade decorations were renewed and the construction lost one storey.
