Monument to Bedrich Smetana and the view of Prague Castle The actual exposition
The expositions are divided into several parts here. The first of them is dedicated to his childhood, youth and early years of Smetana´s artistic work and further to his activities in the Swedish Göteborg. Part two is mainly focussed on Smetana´s activities after his return to motherland and also his work in the opera house of Prozatímní divadlo („Provisional Theatre“). The last part commemorates the end of Smetana´s life.

It is interesting to know that the exposition involves the copies of Smetana´s correspondence and also precious copies of the original scores of his works. One part of the exposition concentrates on Smetana´s family. Beside the already mentioned piano you can listen to the audio samples of his works.

Novotného footbridge Monument to Bedrich Smetana and the view of Prague Castle
The footbridge is located in the neighbourhood of Charles Bridge, at the very end of the Smetana Embankment. A group of ten mills used to stand here around 1396. In 1489 a wooden Old Town Water Tower was built here and was rebuilt of stone a few years later. Later the mills turned into buildings we see today – namely Karlovy lázně (Charles Spa), Klub techniků (The Technicians Club) – former building of the Czechoslovak Scientific and Technological Society. It is interesting that the river Vltava flows under these buildings. The already mentioned Smetana Museum was established in the former Old Town Water Tower. It was called after the miller Karel Novotný who was in charge of the construction of the iron footbridge.

Prague 1 still belongs to one of the most attractive parts of the whole Prague. Probably nowhere else you can find such a concentration of historic monuments and places where the history and romance of bygone times are all around you. Hardly anywhere you can walk on the same paths where were walking Franz Kafka, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the Golem of Prague.
