Church of Sts. Cyrillus and Method and the assassination of Heydrich
The original church dedicated to St. Karel Boromejský was not dedicated to its current patrons Sts. Cyrillus and Method until 1935 after it had been modified for the needs of the Czechoslovakian Orthodox Church.

The church and assassination of Reinhard Heydrich:
The church of Sts. Cyrillus and Method has been recorded in the Czech history because it became a hiding place of the Czech paratroopers who had performed assassination on the Deputy Reich-Protector Reinhard Heydrich during WW2 in 1942. Seven paratroopers who had been trained especially for this assassination did not manage to leave Prague on time and they received a suitable shelter with help of the Orthodox church. The Reich Police immediately started to search for them intensely, they arrested and questioned a great number of people. The questionings resulted in detection of the paratroopers´ hiding place. On June 18th, 1942, the SS- and Gestapo members encircled the church and there was a fight early in the morning. The combat took place inside the church, on choir and even in the crypt. There are still bullet traces on the outer wall of the crypt. Because the fight was lost from the very beginning the paratroopers kept the last bullets for themselves and they also used them. When the main units of the Germans entered the church the paratroopers were already dead. The representatives of the Czechoslovakian Hussite Church with their leader bishop Gorazd were arrested and executed. Based on this event the Czechoslovakian Orthodox Church was also temporarily cancelled in 1942.

Rarity of the church:
It is worth mentioning one curiosity in reference to the building history of the church which was not pulled down by mistake during the modifications of this area in the 1880s. At that time it was considered a work of Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer who was in fact only finishing the building according to a Late-Baroque project of the architect Pavel Ignác Bayer. Due to this mistake the church is still standing there. Nowadays there is a clearly obvious survival of the mentioned modern terrain modifications in shape of an elevated terrace which determines the boundary of the original terrain.
