Long term loan – Bartholomeus Spranger, Allegory of the Turkish Wars

Allegory od the Turkish Wars

This painting is the most recent loan to the Prague Castle Gallery permanent exhibition. It provides an excellent opportunity to become acquainted, in a single work of art, not only with the style of Bartholomeus Spranger, a renowned painter at the court of Emperor Rudolf II, but also with an important event of the times in which the man who commissioned the painting, Rudolf, had found himself, as well as with the hidden meanings of details in an allegorical work.
