History of the Old Town Prague Old Town (1683)
In 1232 the Old Town in Prague
was declared a municipality. One more town was founded in the Old Town in the 13th century – Havelské město (Gall Town). The people of the both towns were mostly German. The significance of the Old Town started to grow stronger because the local craftsmen were establishing guilds. The guilds were important medieval organizations concentrating people of the same craft who had gradually gained certain rights and positions. In the 14th century the emphasis was placed on the promotion of the Czech language therefore German started

Tourist guide PRAGUE CITY LINE - Prague 1 (14,7 MiB)

Prague 1 still belongs to one of the most attractive parts of the whole Prague. Probably nowhere else you can find such a concentration of historic monuments and places where the history and romance of bygone times are all around you. Hardly anywhere you can walk on the same paths where were walking Franz Kafka, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the Golem of Prague.
