Summary of important information on a tour of Prague Castle
We would like to give you some important information and few tips that are practical for your visit to the Castle, such as tour possibilities, admission fees and other useful facts. So, up to the Castle!
Opening times
The Prague Castle is open daily from 1st April – 31st October from 5.00 am - 12pm and from 1st November – 31st March from 6.00am - 11.00pm . Historical and exhibition buildings are open daily from 1st April – 31st October from 9am – 6pm and from 1st November -31st May from 9am – 4pm. They are all closed on 24th December except the Cathedral.

Which building can you visit?
The public can see the Old Royal Palace housing a permanent exhibition called “The Story of Prague Castle”, Basilica of St. George, Convent of St. George – i.e. the National Gallery, Prague Castle Picture Gallery, Powder Tower, Cathedral of St. Vitus, Rosenberg Palace and the Great Southern Tower of the Cathedral.
More useful information
There are rooms at the Prague Castle which can be seen only twice a year. We are speaking about the state rooms which are open to public only on the first Saturday after 8 May and the first Saturday after 28 October.
Castle guards changing
As you already know from our article on Prague Castle guards, tourists can see the ceremonial changing of the guards at the Castle gate every hour on the hour. At noon this ceremony takes place with fanfares and the change of a flag standard at the First Courtyard.
Prague Castle gardens
Prague Castle gardens are open to public free of charge in summer tourist peak season, i.e. from 1 April – 31 October.
Access for disabled people
Historical and exhibition buildings are all accessible for disabled people. The only exceptions are: Daliborka Tower, White Tower, Powder Tower and Great Southern Tower of St. Vitus Cathedral as well as defence corridors in the Golden Lane.
Guide
Certified guides of Prague Castle Administration including those speaking foreign languages are available to all visitors to the Prague Castle.
Public transport
There are several possibilities how to reach the Castle.
1. Take tram 22 to Pražský hrad stop. Walk to the left and you will reach the second courtyard in approx. 5 minutes.
2. Take tram 22 to Pohořelec stop and walk to Hradčanské square. You will enter the first courtyard in approx. 10 minutes.
3. Tak tram 22 to Malostranské náměstí stop, then turn to Zámecká street. 50 metres later turn left to Thunovská street and walk along this street towards the New Castle Stairs. The stairs will take you to Hradčanské square.
4. Metro line A – Malostranská station. Climb up the Old Castle Stairs leading to the Castle.
5. Take tram 22 to Královský letohrádek stop and walk through the Royal garden until you reach the Castle.
The Prague Castle offers several guided tours and it is just up to you which one you will choose.
