History of the dormitory
The Strahov dormitory was built between 1964 – 1965. During its construction nearly all the current complex was built, excluding the first block. However no students stay in this block which was finished four years prior to the other blocks) and to which the other constructions were added. Strahov dormitory had various functions. During the time of Spartakiads the premises were used as cloakrooms for the gymnasts. Besides their sporting purposes the buildings also provided asylum in critical situations, such as alternative accomodation during floods or for victims of other natural disasters.
Strahov dormitory
In Strahov premises twelve blocks were built in total. The Strahov dormitory has an accomodation capacity of more than 4,500 students. The ČVUT students are housed in 2-10 bedded rooms. They have common social facilities and also a students´ canteen, clubs, bars, restaurants, shops, a dormitory playground, copy centre and even a parking place.
How to win accomodation in the Strahov dormitory?
It is not quite easy for students to win accomodation here. The ČVUT management had defined clear standards to decide who has the claim to be housed. The main condition is the distance of his/her domicile from Prague and secondly also the educational results. So if you live far from Prague, you are a student of ČVUT and your results meet the required criteria, you have won.
