Introduction
This extensive garden stretches on the area of some seventy hectars on the eastern slope of Petřín hill. We will find it among the Nebozízek Garden, the cableway and the Schönborn and Lobkowitz Gardens.
The plants and tree species are planted in regular lines whereby they form sort of a block system with irregular corridors. Besides the original fruit trees you can see here also abundantly represented forest tree species which are accompanied by the rockeries and small caves. The garden has a very pleasant atmosphere for walks not just due to its many quiet corners determined for relaxation and rest but in particular due to its pleasant ambient. In the lower part of the garden you have an opportunity to view the early Classical chapel. In the eastern part of the seightseeing path there is a former Classical refectory which was in 1990s rebuilt into a restaurant Petřínské terasy (Petřín Terraces).
History of the garden
The garden was originally called „Gryspekovská“ and was founded in place of the original vineyards. In the 17th century the garden together with the Holy Trinity Church and several neighbouring houses became the property of the order of the Barefoot Carmelites. Thereby the garden became part of the monasterial complex and was also referred to as a monasterial garden. After the monastery had been cancelled in 1784 cancelled it became a garden of an archiepiscopal seminary – that explains the origin of its name Seminářská. Then it gradually turned into an orchard. In 1927 it was bought back by the city and after lesser modifications opened to the public. In the period between 1980-2000 the existing tree species were replaced by the new ones. During this exchange 2734 fruit trees were planted.

The present
The garden has retained its fruit nature until today. The fruit trees still prevail. However, there are also many forest plants accompanied by the rockeries and caves. The garden is intersected by the main Petřín seightseeing path with the restauarsnt Petřínské terasy (Petřín Terraces). In the lower part of the garden, near the cableway, you can find a memorial of the Czech writer Jan Neruda who was born in barracks which used to be located in the garden´s neighbourhood. A bit further the fountain „Playing boys“ is to be found.
