Exhibition – Traditional Jazz Studio – 50 years of live tradition

The collection is very unique in the history of Czech jazz. Not only for its long tradition but also for its historically correct interpretation of classical jazz. The Traditional Jazz Studio is an extraordinary ensemble in Czech jazz history. On 8 November, 2009, they celebrated their 50th anniversary. From the beginning, their interpretative style has been distinguished by purity, the extraordinary quality of their instrumentalists, by the creative concept of solo-playing and inter-playing and mostly by the important contribution of the authors which shifted the term „traditional jazz“, and added new values to it. The exhibition offers an overview of the ensemble’s history, and its members through original documents from the Traditional Jazz Studio’s archives as well as from the members, mainly Pavel Smetácek. Also on display: an interactive database of historic audiovisual documents and live jazz concerts.
